Just watched the DTS mix of Predator. Generally a messy soundtrack, but watch the scene just after Blaine gets hit & Mac goes bonkers, unloading 200 minigun rounds into the jungle, then every other bugger with as much as a pop gun decides to join in...

'War Of The Worlds' (2005).

I just watched it last night and I was very impressed with the thunder cracks as the aliens were being transferred to the tripods. Turn the gain up lil' and give it a try... It really is a very good effect...

Whoa. How about the scene where the tripod first emerges? When the ground is shattering, I thought my house was a goner as well! The consistent rumble was astonishing.

Our house, too!  Windows rattling, coffee mugs marching off shelves - wonder what the neighbors thought was going on!
And even tho it has been sonewhat eclipsed by some of these movies by now, when we first got our big screen tv (for perspective: husband = 6'5"), we used to love to show it off with the opening sequence from Dinosaur, followed by the asteroid sequence for the sound.  Even in the opening sequence, you could feel the dinosaurs stomping through the living room!

Spielberg obviously likes breaking peoples homes. I watched Saving Private Ryan last night. Forget the D-Day landing (though that is good) & preapre yourself for the final battle for the bridge. Oh my, it felt like the tank was coming right up the stairs!

During the first scenes of the Lord of the Rings Fellowship of the Ring when Souron is defeated the ensuing shockwave is amazing.  I watched it on the extended cut which has the DTS track so I don't know how much of a difference that makes.

For my contribution some of the bass created by the starships and jet vehicles in Serenity had my living room floor shaking the other night ... well worth a listen

Its got to be the R1 version of "The haunting", the bedroom scene at night when the spirits knocking on the door. Awesome bass its DTS and you really need to be careful with the subs settings, I havent heard bass that deep before.

The other night I stuck pins in my eyes.

Sorry, that was wrong. I watched The Medallion. I just think sticking pins in my eyes would have been a more attractive way to spend 85 minutes.

That said, Jackie Chan's stunts were superb as usual, but what stuck out for me was the sound. To say the film was so dire, when something got blowed up, it blowed up loud!  Impressive use of bass all round really.

I'd have enjoyed it more with a blindfold on actually...

My brother is my audio "God" and he uses some of those suggested already but also the Mel Gibson film, "The Patriot."  Mel's voice in the beginning has just the right "stuff" and is a bit of a different effect than U-571 - although he uses the bomb dropping scene also.

I mentioned the remix of Predator in an earlier post, and how it could have been better as it is a bit messy. Predator 2 however, is a different beast; not a fantastic film, but the sound mix is amazing. Really punchy. The shoot-out at the start is a real highlight.
