Before DVDs, I got in trouble for playing the finale of The Abyss on laserdisc with two subwoofers going after midnight.  Got a knock on the door the next day from the neighbor across the street.  I used to love the explosion at the beginning of Die Hard 3 or the blast off in Apollo 13

The stomping of the kids across the floor in The Others used to shut off my receiver!

My new house has hardwood floors, so I'm still trying to get my system adjusted so I don't rattle too much in the house.

Yeah, the depth charge in U-571 but also when Sauron explodes in the beginning of Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring. That aftershock is insane!

Thanks for the SVS list. One title missing in my opinion is "The Polar Express". The scene in the beginning when the train first arrives at the boys house is incredible. Also, the scene where the train is skidding over the ice is very good as well. It literally feels like you are on the train.

There is a sequence in "Band of Brothers" when Easy Co. is pinned down in the woods during Bastogne where they are being shelled by the Germans.

That is one of the few war scenes that has ever gotten to me, but it made me cringe and duck just like they were doing.  Not so much for volume, but the combination of helplessness, murderous effect, and mindless terror is overwhelming.

I thought I'd add another title to the list. I just finished watching:

"Open Range"

UPC: 86936-22637
2-Disc
Genre: Western
DTS
Production Year:  2002
Release Date:  20/01/2004
Robert Duvall, Kevin Costner, Annette Bening.

It has some great thunder sound effects here and there and you'll find a pretty cool gun fight through out Chapter 14 and part of 15. In the Director (Costner) commentary he mentions how he tried to scare us with the thunder and how he made an effort to upscale the gun shots to be loud.
Besides the great sound in this movie it's a good story with good acting. If you like westerns I would recommend this one. It's not full out gun play old school Clint Eastwood, but it holds up just fine for me.

Do you happen to remember which disc that sequence is on? My neighbor (whom I turned onto to DVDP) has ran across this topic and has requested that I use that scene as part of a SVS/Axiom/Integra sound demo. If all goes well for me after some structural damage to the foundation of my home I will be able sell my Integra 8.4 and finally get the Denon 5805 I've been itching to get my hands on.
