Starting this week, the schedule for profile database updates will change from Wednesday morning to Tuesday morning.  The first Tuesday update will be February 21st.

This change will ensure the database is as up to date as possible when studios generally release the bulk of their titles, each Tuesday.

That's cool! I've only had to contribute a few titles myself and those still don't have images for them, even whenever I update profiler, but no big.
I've got a photographic memory. I just keep forgetting to put the film in.

Thanks ... but you ouldn't make that Monday could you? ... that's when the studios release the bulk of their titles in the UK

FWIW does anyone know why the day seems to differ by country ... USA it's usually Tuesday, UK is Monday, Germany (by looking at the Upcoming Releases page) seems to be a random day of the week!

I would have thought doing the update Thursday would have been better. Then it means people can buy the new dvd's on Monday/Tuesday, submit contributions, wait 48 hours for approval and then on Thursday all the weeks new dvd's will be available.

Why not update on the fly? So whenever an update is approved, it will be available for download?

I'm sorry if this have been answered before.

Ken explained the procedure once... IIRC it takes about two hours in total to incorporate the updates into the online database. in that period the online database has to be "taken offline" for a short time.

Does anyone really want updates promised for Mondays? This would be Ken's Monday remember...

Ken, this should prove to you that you can't satisfy everyone no matter what you do!

Why not do updates more often?  I mean what prevents you from doing them daily?

I'm wondering why it takes two hours to move the data into the online database?  I know the database is big... But two hours?  Perhaps the server needs to be upgraded?

Jafo:

You want it done daily??!!!!! We already have the most up-to-date database in this particular sector. Most programs update irregulary, some never and one other I know of updates ONCE every month. What ARE you complkaining about.       I would prefer to habve ken spend his time working on the software than to give me daily updates. Once a week is just fine.

The update period is necessary to synchronize data between servers and to package differential updates.  We throttle the synchronization so as not to negatively impact customer use of the online features.

Plus, there's something about a subspace tachyon pulse modulation calibration, but I think that's only once every third Saturday.
