You want it done daily??!!!!! We already have the most up-to-date database in this particular sector. Most programs update irregulary, some never and one other I know of updates ONCE every month. What ARE you complkaining about.       I would prefer to habve ken spend his time working on the software than to give me daily updates. Once a week is just fine.

If there were nothing precluding daily updates (such as some manual intervention on part of IVS) then there should be no reason not to.  If it means the system is down a few minutes each night, so be it.  Apparently the impact is slightly bigger, so that's fine...

Fully agreed, if it were purely an automated exercise requiring a few minutes 'downtime' to align databases then it would be a improvement; as it is there is more to it than that and I too would rather have Ken doing software work if his time would be required to perform daily updates.

Starting this week, the schedule for profile database updates will change from Wednesday morning to Tuesday morning.  The first Tuesday update will be February 21st.

It's 6:48 am on the west coast PST.. Tuesday 21st., no updates., so far.

I assume about the same time as they were on Wednesdays ... namely about now or within the next hour. Nothing is showing as Released yet for me so it may be a bit longer though ...

(FWIW last week it took about another 2 days to register on my machine for some reason ... sometimes it's just weird!)

I wonder what amount is done by hand and why that can't be automated too.

Don't think I'm complaining about frequency... I too want Ken working on the software.  But wherever the system can be "faster" and more responsive to user changes, the better.  We all remember when it took weeks and longer to get profile changes, so things are 1000x better than they were...

Nothing yet at 9:30AM... I don't think a specific time is set aside for this stuff?  I would assume the best time for IVS (if downtime is included) would be to do them automated early in the morning (say 3AM-4AM).

pretty sure it takes like an hour to two hours once the status shows as released to the actual update hitting...

and i agree - if it can be done, daily releases for updates would be amazing!

I would have thought doing the update Thursday would have been better. Then it means people can buy the new dvd's on Monday/Tuesday, submit contributions, wait 48 hours for approval and then on Thursday all the weeks new dvd's will be available.

Exactly. Having the update on Tuesday means that the data isn't accurate with data from the street release (dsic IDs, back cover scans, "full audits") until the following week.

Wednesday was no better since the Tuesday submissions always missed the Wednesday cut-off due to the 48 hour evaluation period.

I just downloaded updates...

Again, the more frequent the updates, the better, but not at the expense of Ken's time.

I was going to suggest this too a while back, but never got around to it. After Wednesdays' updates, many new titles are barebone or fairly incomplete, and thus have to wait for next Wednesday before we get true useful updates on new titles. So a Thursday or Friday update makes more sense to me as it gives users a change to upload new contributions, and get approved to be included in the updates.

Just my 2 cents worth.

I know but I think there may be a minor 'hiccup' in the system in that if I back up at work before the update and then restore at home after it seems to think that since the restore is after the Update time it has no need to get the new files.
Even if I reset the download flags and force a download it seems to download the old data and, as per last week, takes about 2 days to realise it's a bit confused and get the right info.

No biggie though, a couple of days out of date isn't the end of the world so long as it gets it eventually!

Plus, there's something about a subspace tachyon pulse modulation calibration, but I think that's only once every third Saturday.

Capt. Kathryn Janeway just "loved" those tachyon emissions BTW...

If it skips the update, then the new online profile database isn't downloaded and you can't see the new items.

Have you tried refreshing your download timestamps?
