Hi all...

I have been trying to upload my skin, which is just over 8 megs in size but eveytime I try it comes up with an unknown error.

Would this error be due to the large file size?  I hope not.

If anyone can shed some light...
Thanks in advance...

Well, "until they reply" could be a while...

What I could offer is, if you e-mail the file to me, I could upload it to my website and people could download it from there...

All you should do is make a screenshot and advertise for it here, so that people have an idea what they could get...

Is there a way to update a skin (to a newer version) without starting over, like a new skin?

Not quite sure what you're getting at... But if you open the window where you select a skin for use, highlight it first and then click "Edit". Unless the original author has marked it "private" this will briong you into edit mode.

If you already made changes to an existing skin and now want to update it to a newly released version, then things can get more complicated. You'd have to compare the actual content of the old and new version; there is software that will help you with that. In order to do that, you'll have to copy the HTML from the Edit window first and paste it into a TXT file, which you then compare...

Oh, I wasn't clear!

A few months ago, I created a skin (almost from scratch) and I uploaded it to the community (see under Downloads\skins section).  I would now like to provide an update to the community.

1- I tried that once, keeping the same file name, and the 2 skins (both the old and the new one) disappeared, waiting for approval.  Never heard back from that yet (it's been a few months now).

2- I can change the file name and upload it, but eventually ,the web site could be filled with new versions, with little difference between each version.  I don't want to become some kind of spammer.

Am I missing something, or is there a better way to update my skin on this web site?

Thanks.

No, you have summed it up correctly. Actually there is a third option:

- Update the skin with the same name.
- The skin will disappear to be approved.
- Open a support ticket to explain the situation and wait until somebody at IVS solves the problem.

This has worked several times before for my skin updates. But my last support ticket from August has yet to be answered.

I guess this is a bug. It used to be the case that new skins and updates had to be approved. In the motion of automating the site, new skins will be approved immediately after upload these days while updates still have to be approved manually.

thank you for the offer ya_shin and it is much appreciated but i have to decline.  if IVS does no wish to host my skin because of the size then thats my bad luck, i guess.

This is ridicules now, not only can I not upload my skin due presumably to its size, but now I can not even post a screen shot of my skin in the skin section letting people know where they can download it as I do not have a valid .dps file

I would like to place it in the download skin section so that people could search for it, or know when it has been updated.

IVS do not actually read these forums as why do they not reply… is there a way to contact them directly or is that only saved for premium registrants.

thanks 'ya_shin' for your offer, but I have created my own small website so that users can download the skin from there

anyone who has uploaded a skin or a report before have a rough estimate on how long it takes for a skin to be approved by IVS... I uploaded mine over a week ago and it is not up in the skin downloads section...

just a rough guess

I seem to be answering my own here...Am I to assume no one knows how long it takes for IVS to approve your skin... It has been a while now and its not available in the download section so I am assuming again that it was not accepted.

anyone?

You could open a support ticket and ask IVS.
