I'm a long-standing user of free DVDProfiler.  Love it ... it's almost perfect!  This is my first post, however ...

I'm posting to "renew" a request made by Mike Vaney back in 2002 -- "Watch-List" (as opposed to "Wish-List")...".  This is a really great idea!

Amazon no longer lets you register to be notified when a DVD is available for pre-order.  DVD Profiler could meet this need for me, by enhancing the Wish-List with a Watch-List for DVDs that are not yet available.  Here are some particulars that would make it most useful:

1. Specify by title, actor, OR director -- can thus register interest in any DVD with a given actor, for example.  When a new title is announced (or released on DVD), it would automatically add the specific title to your list.

2. Allow for Watching for upcoming DVDs from a film festival, the Oscars or other published list.  I am a huge Sundance fan, and would really like to be able to be notified when movies shown at Sundance become available for order.

3. Specify the region you're interested in (a specific region, any region, or ALL region).

4. Specify how often you'd like to be notified (monthly, weekly, never (but still have it in your list)

5. Specify whether you want to be notified when the DVD is announced (e.g., available for pre-order), or only when it is shipping

6. Tie in to theatrical releases -- this is when I am most aware of a movie, the "buzz" about it, and might want to register interest in a future release.  This is how I used to use the Amazon feature ... read the buzz, and decide whether to register to be notified.  Thus, DVD Profiler would tap into available information about movies "now showing" anywhere (e.g., currently in theatrical release), and let you browse the list to add titles to your watch list.

7. The watch list would automatically display the theatrical release date, the DVD announce date, and the availability date.  DVD announce date is generally when sites like Amazon say the DVD is available for preorder.

8. Have an "Order this DVD" button on the Watch-List (and the Wish-List) that will take you to your preferred on-line store to order the DVD.  (You'd have to designate your preferred online store under Tools>Edit Retailers ... and you could pick just one; Or, you'd specify the preferred retailer under Tools>Options, like you can with PriceFinder).

9. When you use the "Order This DVD" button, it would enter the title automatically into the collection, perhaps with a flag that later allows you to check a box saying the DVD was received.    Titles would be listed as "pre-ordered", "ordered" and "received".

I'm registering today for the paid-for version so I can use the "upcoming" feature as is ... but the above enhancements would make it even more valuable.

Thanks!

Sorry about the Poll, folks ... I thought you could select multiple items ... but I hope you'll indicate in your replies to this note which features you would find most useful, or rank-order them in terms of preference.

Skip,

Now you've lost me, I don't know anything about a watchlist, are you talking about the "Upcoming Releases" that can be added to our wishlist ?

If by "basically the same thing" you mean "they're not even close" then I agree with you 100%

The Upcoming Releases section of the program is nothing more than profiles submitted by users for upcoming releases sorted by the week of release.

It does not (and probably never will IMO) meet the needs asked for here such as registering a title and getting a notification sent to you of when you can pre-order it. OR watching for movies from particular film festivals, OR linking to theatrical releases of movies, etc. etc.

The upcoming releases simply lets a user look to see what has been submitted  and what will be released in a particular week.

Don't get me wrong here, I like the feature a lot and use it all the time to add to my wish list. About every 2 to 3 weeks I go through and look out 4 weeks or so and add the titles I want in my collection, but it doesn't come close to doing what KJ94022 has requested
