I have copied most of my collection on a media server (much easier to find the movie I want than searching through 3 two-hundred disc folders!).

Feature:
If the user has edited the 'Location' field, allow DVD Profiler to play the movie (using the default movie player, of course)

NOTE: this may require a "..." lookup button beside the 'Location' field to aid in searching for the on-line movie rather than keying in the entire substring.

Greg:

This is an old request, looking through the Forum would find it.
This is not ComputerProfiler, nor at this point in time is it a player of any kind. It is $30.00 inventory management program, what you want to do can be done on other software but it costs A LOT more than $30.00. You are probably asking too much of a $30.00 in its present form and COST.

Skip, it may be an old request, but this is the Feature Request forum after all. It doesn't matter if it is beyond the scope of the program (which can only decided by IVS, really). If somebody asks for it, it will be up to IVS to decide if they want to do it.

If this concept is so hard to grasp, maybe you should avoid the Feature Request forum (request is if someone asks, doesn't mean it will be granted).

I've said this before, for me there are only two vaild response in this subforum: 1) one agrees (disagreement is basicaly expressed though non-posting) 2) suggest an existing workaround, which may help the requesting user.

Those are your standards, Achim and welcome to them. Don't try to apply them to me. IVS can certainly do this if it wishes, but, based on what's out there it will not be for $30. That is actually the more cogent point, trying to make people understand that the program in its current form and cost basis isn't going to do that.

My concern is that some of our users are not of this planet  (I'm not, but that is another story) and actually expect this functionality to be added to the program for no additional cost. Real world.

Man, you really like to show people you are dumber than dirt, don't you. What cost basis? It's only Ken's and IVS that decides what to do and what not to do, if they think enough people want it or if Ken finds it an interesting project then they might do it. It's not like they have a set schedule for releases that they must get this in by Sunday so it can be released by Monday. They release when they want to release.

It absolutely amazes me that you want people to think that you know what you are talking about, then you go ahead and open your mouth and show them you don't know a thing.

You really like to be insulting, don't you tlevel. I suggest before you open you mouth further that you LEARN a LOT more about this program than you current level of knowledge provides. You only show people that you are dumber than dirt.(your words)

Sorry if the truth is insulting to you. Ok, so enlighten me oh mighty hypocrite. Tell us all about the costs that they would incur from such a request? Maybe stop them from bringing a new release to market for a year and a half? Oh that's right, they are already are doing that.

Enlighten yourself, I feel no desire to assist with your learning process.
The path you are on, tlevel will wind up ultimately with you winding up where a few other users have found themselves...be careful.

Going to cry to your mummy, are you?

You can't enlighten anybody, because you don't have an answer do you? I would just feel sorry for you except I just can't figure out if you are closer to 5 or 55 years old.

While the children are fighting on who pisses the farther, there might be a workaround to satisfy your request.

I personally never copied my DVD's to the hard disk so I don't know if it ends-up as 1 file or as a set of .VOB and .IFO files in a folder.  If there is however, for each movie, a file somewhere that you just double-click for your movie to start playing in your favorite software, you can probably achieve this with an html link to that file in the "Notes" field.

As I said I don't put DVD's on my hard disk so I can't try it myself but I'm pretty sure it can work.

Cmon, Skippy, can't answer the question? Why is it not cost effective if IVS takes the time to program something like this? Enlighten everyone else, but me, with your great and powerful wisdom.

I do concede that Skipster can piss farther than me, after all, he is the bigger dick.

That is absurd.  Adding a link in the  program that would allow you to launch a movie player is a very simple change.  I cannot imagine why it would cost "a LOT more than $30.00".

We already have had skins for the program that allow playing trailers with a simple mouse-over. This auto-play feature request shouldn't be much different.
