DVDP should recognize that 1941 is larger than 50.  When sorting by title DVDP puts '1941' ahead of '50 First Dates' for example.  It is sorting by the "1" instead of by sequential number size.  We shouldn't have to "personalize" a bunch of DVDs to get it to sort correctly when sorting by title.

DVD titles are character strings. You can not sort character strings by numeric value, even if the string includes numbers. And to be honest, I do not even understand why you'd want to sort DVD titles by numeric value, assuming we don't want to sort season or series numbers.

Those two examples you gave are just the names of the movies. The title "1941" is in no way LARGER than "50 First Dates". In an alphabetized list "1941" comes before "50 First Dates".

it is sorting correctly by title/ Title is a string - not a number.

And I had a look at your collection - it looks like you had to personalise 1 dvd - 1941 so it sorted after the other dvds which have numeric characters at the front.

- so I'm not sure where this 'bunch' came from.

I took all personalization out of my movies that start with a number and reassigned collection numbers ordered on title.  When DVDP orders movies by titles, movies with numbers at the start of the movie name are put first then it moves to the alphabet.  This is the correct way.

It orders any movies with a title starting with a "1", then a "2", "3", etc.  It orders based first on numbers starting the title and then letters.

It is like a spreadsheet in a way.  If you make a spreadsheet with 1000 rows and have your first column as numbers and randomly enter them, and then have the spreadsheet order them, 1000 will be last - not following "1" which is what DVDP does.

I re-uploaded my collection after taking out personalization.  You can see that it puts the movie "1941" after "16 Blocks" and before "3 Days of the Condor".  I would prefer that "1941" would be my last numbered movie before it starts with the alphabet.  The only way to have it do that is come up with my own personalization.

Jykke & pauls42 ... in case I am missing something this is a thread for feature requests ... right?

So unless you have a programming reason why something would not work (and I am sorry, "it is a string" is not a valid reason), you should not complain that his request is not significant enough.  There would be no reason why this field could not look for numbers before letters (other than that is the way it was designed by the programmer).

Unless I am missing something (again), even if it only does require jdwall to personalize their collection for only 1 title, remember that there may be others out there that could benefit from the same 'feature' and just not vocalize it.

Actually I think the comment that this is a string is a valid reason why it can't work.

And since they have already programmed in a way to make the profiles search the way he wants (without any further programming) then it seems unlikely that they will change the system..

The Sort title is your friend.

Of course this is possible to sort a string this way - The Windows Explorer does the same thing. Try to create the files "text1.txt", "text2.txt" and "text11.txt" and see how they will sort.

I agree it should be low priority as there is a workaround and has very limited impact, but it certainly is not impossible to do - it's not even hard.
